A Flatwoods Army veteran will be Kentucky’s representative for the 2026 Purple Heart Patriot Project, according to a news release.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joseph Steele will be recognized at the multi-day program that pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice of America’s combat wounded. The program is part of the National Purple Heart Honor Mission.

The Purple Heart Patriot Project is scheduled for April 27 through May 1. It will feature visits to historic sites, including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, a private tour of the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, a stop at the historic Washington’s Headquarters (where the Badge of Military Merit originated in 1782) and the 9/11 Memorial.
