Albert Walsh

Albert Walsh was commissioned into the U.S. Army in May 2003 and served for nearly eight years, including three tours in Iraq between 2005 and 2010.

During his first tour while based out of Camp Taji, near Baghdad, Walsh was on a patrol when the lead High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle “Humvee” was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED). While Walsh and his crew were moving toward the disabled vehicle they began taking small arms fire and rocket propelled grenade (RPG) fire. During the fighting, Walsh was wounded by shrapnel from an RPG.

Along with his Purple Heart, CPT Walsh was awarded numerous medals and commendations during his service, including the Iraq Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Action Badge and more.

Since being honorably discharged, Walsh has become active in the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH). Walsh served as Wyoming’s honoree during the 2021 Purple Heart Patriot Project Mission.
