Matthew King
Matthew King enlisted in the Army in February 2004 and served for the next three years.
In May 2005, King was deployed on a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) mission to assist a scout team that was under heavy enemy fire in the Arghandab Valley, Afghanistan. Soon after air assaulting into the river valley and moving into position to set up 240 bravo machine gun, the waiting Taliban attacked from a heavily fortified position. During the firefight, a Taliban fighter attempted to destroy the unit’s machine gun team with a RPG. Luckily, he missed the machine gun and the rocket hit King in the leg, causing severe injury.
Along with his Purple Heart, SP4 King was awarded numerous medals and commendations during his service, including the Army Commendation Medal with “V’ device, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and more.
Married and the proud father of four, Matthew continues to serve his country and community as a member of law enforcement.
